Women’s Legal Assistance Project (WLAP)

About Us

We are a student run public interest group at the University of Pennsylvania Law School that offers free trainings on public benefits and child custody to previously incarcerated women in the Philadelphia area. Our goal is to assist these women with the path to reintegration–a path that, unfortunately, is wrought with obstacles ranging from exorbitant court costs and fines to the inability to get custody of children due to a criminal record. Our hope is to increase awareness of the unique needs of this population of women–both those currently in the prison system and those who have gotten out and are trying to restart their lives.
