PLIRP is proud to host Reed Smith pro bono attorneys Jayne Fleming and Chris Walters. Join us as some ISHRF (International Summer Human Rights Fellowship) students present their summer internship experiences and as the attorneys provide an overview of Reed Smith’s human rights practice, discuss challenges in immigration and refugee law and the legal solutions to violence against women in Haiti. Following their remarks, the audience will engage in a question-and-answer session. Jayne Fleming is Pro Bono Counsel to Reed Smith and leads the firm’s Human Rights Team. Chris Walters founded Reed Smith’s Philadelphia litigation practice and since 2005 has served as the firm’s Senior Pro Bono Counsel. Dinner will be served.
Immigration Rally for Dignity and Respect
Saturday, October 5, at 12pm at LOVE Park (16th and JFK Blvd.)
Join members of PLIRP and Pennsylvania United for Immigration Reform (PUIR) for a rally at LOVE Park calling for immigration reform that promotes family unification, followed by a march to the ICE offices to demand an end to deportations.
Monday, October 7, at 6:30pm in S240A
Wendy Hess, partner and founder of immigration law firm Goldblum & Hess, will provide a broad overview of the U.S. immigration system and will highlight specific issues and opportunities for new immigrants. Additionally, Professor Paoletti will lead a brief discussion of ethical considerations that PLIRP volunteers should bear in mind when volunteering this year. This event will be recorded for PLIRP members with excused absences.
