February 25, 2015 | Film Screening: The Price of Sex

December 10, 2014 | Human Rights Day

Human Rights Day was established to bring to the attention ‘of the peoples of the world’ the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations. IHRA hosted an event to commemorate Human Rights Day by encouraging Penn Law students, staff, and faculty to think about the right which matters most to them and write it down on a hand. Over 100 hands were posted to create a visual display that human rights matter to the Penn Law community! Sponsored by Insomnia Cookies.

November 12, 2014| The Legal Challenges in Asymmetric Warfare - The Case of Operation Protective Edge
This event presented a legal analysis of the modern challenges Western Democracies face when battling terrorists embedded in a civilian population, such as America in Afghanistan, Israel in Gaza, and France in North Africa.  Our guest speaker was Lt. Col. Dr. Eran Shamir-Borer, member of the International Law Department of the Israeli Defense Force.  The discussion was moderated by Professor Burke-White, our local International Law expert.

November 4, 2014| Film Screening: Girl Rising

Girl Rising was born in a search for how to end global poverty. And the answer was pretty simple: educating girls is the highest-return investment you can make in breaking cycles of poverty. The film journeys around the globe to witness the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to change the world.
