Networking & Interviewing

Speed networking

Through one-on-one counseling and a wide variety of programs and resources, Penn Carey Law students develop the networking and interviewing skills they need to launch and maintain successful careers. We facilitate opportunities for students to connect with a worldwide network of Penn Carey law alumni who are ready to offer mentorship and assistance in establishing and advancing their careers.

Regardless of the type of interview situation you enter, your pre-interview preparation is absolutely key to your success.

Our advice to you is this: be prepared, and then enjoy yourself. The interview gives you a chance to develop a (short-term) relationship with the interviewer (someone who, like you, is interested in the field of law). You can express your interest in the interviewer and also let your own appealing personal qualities come through during the course of the conversation. Additionally, the more you can enjoy the interviewing experience - because you know your market, you know what you want to say about yourself and your place in the market - the better you will do.

The material on these pages provides practical tips and suggestions for how to prepare for and perform well in various interviewing situations.

OCS offers a series of programs for students to help you prepare for interviewing, including interview skills resources below, 1L Mock Interview Program (spring), and mock interviews with a OCS counselor . In addition, all students are welcome to make an appointment at any time to discuss interviewing with an OCS counselor.
