Reid Cater’s career has focused on representing individuals in prison in North Carolina. In 2022, Reid founded Piedmont Defenders, a nonprofit law firm representing individuals on direct appeal, capital post-conviction, and non-capital post-conviction. Previously, Reid worked as a policy specialist with the Crime and Justice Institute and as a Senior Staff Attorney at North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services.
