Reid Cater L’13

Reid Cater is originally from the Gulf Coast of Alabama. At Penn, he was focused on returning to the South to pursue a career in indigent defense. He currently lives in Hillsborough North Carolina and is a post-conviction staff attorney at North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services (NCPLS). NCPLS provides meaningful access to the courts to inmates across North Carolina on both criminal post-conviction issues and civil issues related to conditions of confinement. As a member of the post-conviction team, Reid reviews the convictions of inmates for any legal issue which has a reasonable chance of overturning their conviction or lowering their sentence. When issues are found they are litigated on behalf of inmates in State and Federal Court. Reid is also the supervisor of the NCPLS intern program and is always looking to bring other Penn students down south to do good work and enjoy good barbecue.
