LL.B./LL.M., Kyoto University
What I Did Before Law School:
Judge of Osaka District Court (criminal division and bankruptcy division)
Why I Chose Penn Law:
Penn Law has a relatively small class that consists of diverse and excellent students. I expected active discussion in the classrooms and easy and frequent contact with faculty members - and this is what I found.
My Best Experience at Penn Law:
I have made a lot of good friends from all over the world. Studying with them in the United States itself is great experience for me.
Professor Who Influenced Me Most:
Professor Catherine T. Struve. She is a diligent and sincere scholar. She taught me the attitude towards study and is now supervising my independent study.
My Favorite Course:
Constitutional Litigation. You learn not only legal issues but also the current of American society. The instructor, Professor Seth Kreimer, delivered exciting lectures and the class was very active.
My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:
Philadelphia Orchestra and great museums such as Barnes Foundation and Philadelphia Museum of Art.
What I’m Most Proud Of:
My job. Judges are expected to make the final decisions solely based on the law and their conscience. It is tough and highly responsible task and, therefore, challenging for me.
My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:
On Friday, I usually play basketball or volleyball at the Hutchinson Gym and then have a drink with friends.
My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:
Courtyard of the Law School (except in winter!).
