Okeroghene Pearl Ighoyivwi

Lagos, Nigeria

Class Year:

LLM, 2010

Prior Education:

University of Lagos, Nigeria- LLB (Bachelors of Law) 2006 Nigerian Law School - BL qualification to practice law (Barrister of Law) 2007

What I Did Before Law School:

Before coming to Penn Law, I worked at the State House of Assembly, in Nigeria, as a legal officer before moving to a private law firm where I was involved in general litigation, commercial law, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.

Why I Chose Penn Law:

I chose Penn Law for several reasons- its tradition for excellence (Ivy League), the exceptional corporate law curriculum, the summer program designed for LLM students, the great opportunity to meet and network with individuals from different parts of the world.

My Best Experience at Penn Law:

My best experience was the whole academic year!— The summer program organized for LLM’s, lunch at the Lemon Grass Thai restaurant and Sitar Indian restaurant, the Barrister’s ball and generally hanging out with friends!

Professor Who Influenced Me Most:

Professor Michael Wachter is a very humorous and excellent professor. I enjoyed his method of teaching which encouraged us to focus on very important details through the use of prepared outlines and hypothetical’s. He also kept us on our toes with the row panel discussions.

My Favorite Course:

My favorite course was Corporations. It provided the foundation for my understanding of American corporate law and its functioning’s.

My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:

My favorite Philadelphia moment will definitely be watching the Philadelphia orchestra performances at the Kimmel Center.

What I’m Most Proud Of:

I’m proud that I was able to achieve a balance between academics and extra curricular activities but most important of all was just being a part of the Penn Law community.

My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:

I was part of the Black law Students Association and the Students Against Gender Exploitation (SAGE) group.

My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:

The Blanche P. Levy Park, also known as the Green and the 5th floor of the Biddle Law Library (there is a nice little corner where you can sit down and take in a nice view of center city while reading).
