Kazuya Horimi

Tokyo, Japan

Class Year:

Prior Education:

Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan
Bachelor of Law

What I Did Before Law School:

After I worked for a general trading company, I have worked for Kirin, a Japanese beer, beverage and pharmaceutical company. I have dealt with legal matters such as contracts, M&A and dispute resolution as an in-house counsel.

Why I Chose Penn Law:

I chose Penn Law because I can take not only law-related courses in the LLM program but also business related courses in the Wharton Programs for Working Professionals at the same time. The accessibility to the faculty and the kind support from the office of Graduate Programs were also the reasons I chose Penn Law.

My Best Experience at Penn Law:

The interaction between the students with various backgrounds from all over the world is my best experience at Penn Law. The experience to study with those students and the relationships with them will be valuable assets in the future.

Professor Who Influenced Me Most:

Professor Eric Feldman is the most influential professor because he knows Japanese laws and cultures very well, and gave me a lot of effective advice for the success in the LLM study at Penn Law.

My Favorite Course:

“Corporation” taught by Professor David Skeel and “Legal Writing” taught by a JD student, are my favorite courses. The professor’s lecture includes how corporate law relates to the economy and business. Legal Writing class is effective in gaining an understanding on how to write legal documents in the U.S.

My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:

Driving near Philadelphia area is one of my favorite. Though Center City, Philadelphia is very small, there are a lot of nice places to drive within only one or two hour driving distance.

What I’m Most Proud Of:

Being a member of Penn Law.

My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:

The courtyard of the Law School. It is the best place for reading and talking with friends.
