Ananth Padmanabhan, SJD Candidate
Ananth Padmanabhan joined the SJD Program in 2014, and was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship. Prior to that, he won the Karin Iest Award for Excellence in the LL.M. Program, 2013-14, at Penn Law. During his stint as a Masters student, he worked with the Center for Technology, Innovation and Competition as a Student Research Fellow, and researched extensively on cutting edge issues in copyright law and property theory. He also worked with the Center for Advanced Study of India, specifically engaging with regulatory issues and bottlenecks that ail higher education in India.
Ananth graduated from India’s premier law school, the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, in 2007 where he won the prestigious H.M. Seervai Gold Medal for the best essay in Constitutional Law. He joined the bar in India, first working at the chambers of Arvind P. Datar, Sr. Advocate, Madras High Court and then setting up an independent law practice. He is the author of the leading treatise, Intellectual Property Rights: Infringement and Remedies, published by LexisNexis Butterworths Wadhwa, in 2012, and has written several newspaper op-eds and lectured widely on intellectual property rights in India.
