Professional Experience Prior to Law School:
I previously worked as an international tax associate with PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York.
What I Am Hoping to Do with My Law Degree:
As I fill out this questionnaire in my third month of law school, I realize my plans for the future are still evolving. Fortunately, Penn Law provides many networking opportunities to expose students to the myriad of options that are available to future JDs.
My Best Experience at Penn Law:
Penn Law organizes many exciting social events to help acclimate incoming students – cocktails at the National Constitution Center, bowling outings, and museum visits. My best experience has been meeting and building relationships with my fellow students.
Professor Who Influenced Me Most:
In Civil Procedure, Professor Catherine Struve guides us through the labyrinth of Federal Rules. With her passion for the subject matter, Professor Struve has opened my eyes to the complexity that underlies this country’s judicial system. Outside the classroom, she is actively involved in the Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on Appellate Rules. This experience allows her to bring a unique perspective to the material.
My Favorite Course:
Although the subject matter can sometimes be unwieldy, we can always count on Contracts for comedic relief. Through his Socratic style, Professor Jody Kraus guides us to extract and explicate contractual doctrine buried in opinions.
An Example of How the Law School’s Cross-disciplinary Approach Influences My Legal Education:
All of our professors have experience outside the legal field. For instance, Professor Jonathan Klick draws from his economic research to assist in our Torts policy analysis.
Meaningful Cross-disciplinary Experience at Penn:
One of the main reasons I was drawn to Penn Law was the unique opportunity to supplement my legal education with classes at the Wharton School.
Penn Law is known for its collegial environment. Why is collegiality important to a legal education? How has it affected your legal education?
Before coming to law school, I was warned that law students in general are painfully competitive group. However, with the exception of flag football games, I have not experienced any of the mean-spirited competition for which legal education is famous.
My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:
Philadelphia seems to come alive on the weekends. My favorite moments have occurred while attending the various street fairs that take place in Center City.
What I’m Most Proud Of:
Achieving a balance between schoolwork and extracurricular activities.
My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:
JD/MBA Association, Energy Club, Flag Football, Federalist Society, Street Law, Sailing Club.
What I Did For Public Interest:
I plan to put my tax experience to good use by participating in either the Low Income Tax Payer Clinic or Iraqi Refugee Assistance Program, which also provides tax assistance.
My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:
The campus is idyllic, especially now as the leaves change. Behind the Law School there is a row of restaurants like New Deck and White Dog Cafe which provide the perfect setting to relax with classmates after a hectic week at school.
