Universidad de la República, Montevideo, Uruguay Bachelor of Laws/Attorney (J.D. equivalent)
What I Did Before Law School:
I worked as an attorney in the corporate department at a law firm in Uruguay.
Why I Chose Penn Law:
Aside from the fact it is an Ivy League school, among the best in the country, I found very appealing its interdisciplinary approach towards education. It also has a rather small program, where the experience and background of every LLM student counts, and makes it especially easy to create strong bonds with your classmates.
My Best Experience at Penn Law:
The summer program, because you get to know your classmates, learn about their background and home countries, and you also have the entire Law School for yourself!
Professor Who Influenced Me Most:
Professor William Ewald who taught us the Foundations of American Legal system course during the summer program. He manages to transmit a large number of concepts in a very eloquent way, which made it both simple and interesting to be in his class.
My Favorite Course:
Trusts and Estates. I come from a civil law country where the rules are forced heirship and community property during marriage. So I found John Terrill´s course fascinating because it taught me the differences that the US legal system has, mainly testamentary freedom and separate property states.
My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:
Organizing international dinners with the other LLM students.
What I’m Most Proud Of:
Being able to find equilibrium between the obligations at the Law School and going out and having fun with my friends.
My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:
I play soccer every Friday at Penn Park with other students. I also try to travel as much because there are many interesting places to visit around Philly.
My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:
I really enjoy sitting in the Courtyard with a coffee and just chat there with my friends. You get to see all the students coming and going, you meet people and the whole atmosphere really makes you feel proud of studying at Penn Law!
