Isabella Hernandez L’24
Isabella (Izzy) Hernández is a 3L from Queens, NY. She graduated from Skidmore College in 2018 with a degree in Philosophy and Anthropology. After graduating, she worked as a paralegal for two years in New York City. Following her time as a paralegal, she received her Master’s in Bioethics (MBE) from Harvard Medical School.
At Penn Carey Law, Izzy is the co-chair of the Decarceration Advocacy Project, a pro bono project that provides legal education to people incarcerated at a women’s jail in Philadelphia and post-conviction assistance to people in Pennsylvania. She is also the co-chair of If/When/How, the reproductive justice pro bono project. She was previously the advocacy chair for LALSA, the Latinx student organization, and an associate editor on the Journal of Law and Social Change.
During her 1L summer, Izzy interned in the Criminal Defense Practice of the Legal Aid Society in Queens, NY. During her 2L summer, Izzy interned in the Criminal Defense Practice for the Defender General in Burlington, VT. After graduation, she plans to continue working in public defense and hopes to use her MBE to advocate for health and reproductive justice for folks in the criminal legal system.
In her free time, Izzy enjoys hiking, movie marathons, and visiting family and friends in New York City.
