Tolegen Myrzabayev

Karaganda, Kazakhstan

Class Year:

Prior Education:

Karaganda State University (Kazakhstan), degree in “Law” (equivalent to Bachelor of Laws)

What I Did Before Law School:

I worked as a senior associate at an international law firm in Kazakhstan. Areas of my practice included corporate and finance law, oil and gas law and public-private partnership.

Why I Chose Penn Law:

I chose Penn Law because of the extreme excellence of its professors in Corporate and Finance Law, its cross-disciplinary focus, Ivy League school status and convenient location in a big city.

My Best Experience at Penn Law:

The Summer Program: it was a good time to meet other classmates and adapt to the US law school setting and new life.

Professor Who Influenced Me Most:

Professor Douglas Frenkel, who teaches the Mediation clinical course. His rich practical experience, supervision and comments were highly valuable.

My Favorite Course:

So far it is the Mediation clinical course. It equipped me with various useful practical skills and provided me with opportunity to see some aspects of the US court system, otherwise hidden from eyes of a foreign-trained LLM student. I look forward to the great courses in the spring semester.

My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:

Walking from the Center City to the University and chatting with my friends after our group dinners and lunches.

What I’m Most Proud Of:

Being part of such culturally diverse and accomplished LLM class comprised of open-minded people with different work backgrounds and life experiences

My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:

Various activities, organized by the Wharton and Penn Law Energy Clubs.

My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:

Walk from my apartment to the Law School through the University campus area, which gives time to enjoy the surroundings and think about new knowledge and experience to be brought by a new day.
