William Kelly, SJD Candidate
Hometown: West Coast, New Zealand.
Prior Education: University of Auckland, and others.
What I Did Before Law School: Worked as a senior in-house counsel for a large UK multinational and prior that worked at large international law firms in London and Sydney.
Why I Chose Penn Law: Ivy League status and reputation, expert professors and choices of courses, the fact you can get a good grounding in the five weeks’ Summer Program so you are set up for classes with JD students beginning Fall. Lastly, the lower cost of living coming to Philadelphia (while still having a strategic location nearby to NYC and DC).
My Best Academic Experience in the Summer Program: Learning the fundamentals of due process and equal protection doctrines and the basics of Federal question vs diversity jurisdiction in the Federal courts.
My Best Social or Cultural Experience in the Summer Program: The Chinese meal after the foundations exam, a great feeling to have finished the summer program successfully.
My Favorite Philadelphia Discovery: The fact the Law School complex of buildings is in pristine condition having just undergone a few years of additions and renovations – we get to enjoy it without the noisy works and scaffolding now all the painstaking works are done. Also, the great cafes and small markets around 18th Street & Rittenhouse Square.
