Kristoffer Nerland

Hometown: Oslo

Class Year: 2013

Prior Education: Master’s degree (5 years)

What I Did Before Law School: Military service before my Norwegian law school, and then I went straight to Penn Law after that.

Why I Chose Penn Law: Because of its strength within corporate law and the opportunity to take an interdisciplinary approach to my studies

My Best Experience at Penn Law: When I finally understood something of my Corporate Finance Legal Aspects take-home exam at the roof top on a sunny day in April.

Professor Who Influenced Me Most: Professor Bratton in Corporate Finance Legal Aspects. That became clear to me when he explained a set of cases through an analogy to a specific scene in the movie Armageddon.

My Favorite Course: Both Corporate Finance with Wacther and Corporate Finance Legal Aspects with Bratton

My Favorite Philadelphia Moment: In spring I was out running by the Schuylkill River and I saw down on a bench afterwards, visibly exhausted after the run. A guy already sitting next to me offered me his ice tea because he said I needed it more than he did. We sat and chatted in the sun for 30 minutes afterwards.

What I’m Most Proud Of: My personal development. I really went out of my comfort zone.

My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law: Soccer team assistant (and of course the star of the team…), LLM Human Rights Project, and exemplary attendance at the Bar Reviews.

My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus: The roof top on a sunny day.
