Judes Abboud

Hometown: Beirut, Lebanon

Class Year: LL.M class of 2013

Prior Education:

LLB (Saint Joseph University of Beirut) / MBA (Ecole Superieure des Affaires, Beirut) / Master in Management (ESCP Europe, Paris)

What I Did Before Law School:

I worked as a corporate lawyer in private law firms both in Lebanon and Qatar.

Why I Chose Penn Law:

Because of its small selective LL.M. Class, it is an Ivy league school, has an incredible reputation in the USA and specially in corporate law, it offers many cross disciplinary programs for example the Wharton Business Certificate.

My Best Experience at Penn Law:

Academically, benefiting from the wide variety of transactional courses to improve my background in both corporate law and business perspective and having the chance to attend many conferences given by international leading scholars. Personally, being the class president of the LLM and getting to be in touch with the friendly and helpful staff at Penn Law.

Professor Who Influenced Me Most:

Amazing professors at Penn Law and it is very hard to choose between them but if I had to pick one, I will say Professor McMillen, he was my Islamic finance professor and helped me get a better understanding of many legal and business topics both locally and internationally.

My Favorite Course:

Islamic Finance (McMillen) / Corporate finance (Frank LaMay)

My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:

Many things are going on around in Philadelphia all the time. As a sport’s fan, I have to say going to many 76 sixers games in the NBA, watching the Phillies (baseball) and the Flyers (hockey), without forgetting of course the nice restaurants and bars in this very charming city.

What I’m Most Proud Of:

Making a lot of friends from all over the world, being able to benefit from all the activities and pro bono projects available, delivering the graduation speech at the 2013 graduation ceremony, organizing many activities, dinners and reunions for my classmates all year long.

My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:

Playing soccer at Penn park and going to the amazing gym facility.

My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:

The campus is amazing! Locust walk is the nicest place to be when the weather is nice and it gives you the real feeling of the vibrant life on campus and the great history of the university.
