Elise Luce Kraemer L’93

Elise Luce Kraemer L’93 combines her extensive mindfulness training with her background as a trial lawyer and law school administrator to provide lawyers and law students with practical tools they can utilize immediately and hone as they transition to practice and develop as lawyers. Mindfulness training is particularly helpful to manage the stress of law school and practice, to develop effective listening and communication skills, and to maintain focus, which are all essential to effective client service.

Elise has studied yoga and meditation for over 20 years. Over the past five years, Elise has led meditation programming for Penn Law staff and students, including a summer course for international lawyers enrolled Penn Law’s LLM program for the last four years. This program introduced students to mindfulness practice, helped them develop stress management techniques and better client service skills. Elise has also taught mindfulness as part of Drexel Law School’s JD orientation program, and at local law firms including Ballard Spar and Pepper Hamilton, as well as at the City of Philadelphia Law Department.

Elise earned a BA from the University of Chicago in Art and Design in 1990, and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1993. Elise served as a Deputy City Solicitor for the City of Philadelphia before returning the Penn Law in 2006 as a Career Counselor. She is now Executive Director of Graduate Programs, where she oversees the admissions and recruiting of foreign trained attorneys for the LLM program and provides student services to current LLM and SJD students.

Elise completed the Practicum in MBSR for Professionals at Jefferson Myrna-Brind Center of Integrative Medicine and over the past three years has completed the requirements for the Certificate in Mindfulness from the Penn Center on Mindfulness, which is part of the Medical School.
