Whitney Viets L’15

Whitney received her B.A. in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009. While at Penn, Whitney held summer internships at the Philadelphia Office of the Federal Defender (Capital Habeas Unit), the Justice Policy Institute in Washington, D.C., and the German Foreign Relations Council in Berlin, Germany.  After graduation, she spent two years working as a paralegal specialist at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where she assisted with prosecutions in the Criminal Division’s Public Corruption unit.  Whitney later volunteered in Peru, teaching secondary school in Lima and aiding in the sustainable reconstruction of homes in the city of Pisco. From August 2011 to August 2012, she worked as a community organizer at Second Harvest Food Bank in San Jose, California.

At Penn Law, Whitney serves in two pro bono student groups: the International Human Rights Advocates and the Penn Law Immigrants’ Rights Project. She most recently completed a summer internship at the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition in Washington, D.C. Whitney hopes to pursue a career in international human rights law, with a specific focus on the protection of refugee rights.
