Pilar Ramos L’97
Pilar S. Ramos is the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of TelevisaUnivision. She joined the Company at a moment of transformation pending a major strategic merger and new streaming platform build.
Ms. Ramos was General Counsel, North America, at Mastercard. In this role, Pilar and her team provided strategic advice and leadership on all legal, regulatory, government and franchise affairs in the company’s largest business unit, North America. Prior to that role, Ms. Ramos was Senior Vice President, Global Public Policy and Regulatory Strategy Counsel. In that role, she led advocacy on behalf of Mastercard on public policy and regulatory matters with governments and other relevant stakeholders across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, managing a global team across these markets. She also worked extensively on trade policy matters with the U.S. and other governments, focusing on market access and trade in data and payment services issues that were absent or underemphasized in trade agreements (including the Trans-Pacific Partnership). Ms. Ramos began her tenure at Mastercard as Region Counsel in the Latin America and Caribbean Region. Before joining Mastercard, she worked as in-house counsel in the entertainment sector and the internet marketplace sector. Ms. Ramos began her legal career as an associate at the law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, working in the New York and London offices on international capital markets and syndicated finance matters.
Ms. Ramos holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she served as an Executive Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. She received her Bachelor of Arts degrees cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, in International Relations and in French. She also carried out part of her undergraduate studies at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris, France. Ms. Ramos speaks Spanish, French and some Portuguese.
Ms. Ramos’ global personal and professional life experience has reinforced for her the criticality of leveraging diversity to advance business and society. Ms. Ramos is a life member of The Council on Foreign Relations. She serves on the boards of LatinoJustice, a social justice organization, and the YWCA Greenwich, which focuses on eliminating racism, empowering women and girls, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. In addition, she serves at the request of the Dean, as co-chair of the Alumni Advisory Board for Inclusion & Engagement at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. She has been a generous mentor through various informal and formal channels, such as the 30% Club. She is a vocal advocate for advancing diversity in the legal profession, particularly at leadership levels, including through her involvement with the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity.
Among other recognitions, Ms. Ramos has been most recently honored with the CUP Change Agent Award, National Women in Law Award for Transformative Leadership from Corporate Counsel, the Aiming High Award from Legal Momentum, and the Breaking the Glass Ceiling Award from the Leadership Institute for Women of Color Attorneys.
