Susan Gualtier

Reference & FCIL Librarian

Susan is a Reference and Foreign, Comparative, and International Law Librarian at Biddle Law Library. Prior to accepting her position at Penn, she served as Foreign, Comparative, and International Law Librarian at the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center. She earned her B.A. in History from Yale University in 2000, her J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2004, and her M.L.I.S. from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in 2011. Susan also worked as a litigation associate before pursuing law librarianship.

Susan is active in several professional associations, including the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) and the International Association of Law Libraries (IALL.) She has served as Chair of AALL’s Foreign, Comparative, and International Law Special Interest Section and has served on a number of other Committees and Award Juries. Susan also served as a member of the Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals Advisory Board from 2014-2019. She received the Spirit of the FCIL-SIS award at the 2015 AALL conference in Philadelphia and was a Leadership Fellow at the 2016 AALL Leadership Academy.

Susan is currently the head of Biddle’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Team and curates the library’s DEI Collection.

Susan lives in Philadelphia and is the head of a five-cat household. In her free time, she enjoys doing circus aerials and fire dancing at the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts.
