Mehrnoosh Aryanpour SJD’25
Mehrnoosh Aryanpour is an energy regulatory attorney currently pursuing an SJD degree (doctorate in law) at the University of Pennsylvania’s Carey Law School.
Her research at the Law School focuses on climate change, specifically on the effect of economic sanctions on global climate-change efforts. Shelley Welton, Presidential Distinguished Professor of Law and Energy Policy, serves as her supervisor. While at Penn, she is also receiving a certificate at the Wharton School of Business.
Mehrnoosh has been awarded the prestigious Jacobson Global Venture Awards by the Lauder Institute of Management and International Studies for her work on Project Green Swan. Green Swan is an early-stage investment and advisory platform focused on project development and asset allocation into sustainable infrastructure, with a focus on economically fragile, sanctioned and/or conflict-affected geographies. It aims to allocate capital as well as to provide legal, financial, and technical advisory to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns while creating value for local affected communities.
Mehrnoosh holds an LLB from the University of Tehran and an LLM from Georgetown University. She ranked first (out of 496,797 participants) in Iran’s National Entrance Exam and received the Presidential Award for the top student in the humanities, among other accolades.
Her legal practice included but was not limited to structuring, negotiating, and implementing more than $10 billion worth of hydrocarbon transactions and related legal frameworks, including investment treaties and licensing, environmental permitting, HSE pre-contractual due diligence, tenders, EPCF agreements, service contracts, and all other aspects of both upstream and downstream JV consortiums.
She has also served as counsel, international head of office, and partner at several major European and American law firms in their offices in Afghanistan, Iran, and the United States. She is a member of the New York Bar.
