Angel Reed
Angel Reed was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Georgetown University in May 2021, where she double majored in African American Studies and Sociology. In pursuit of her Sociology degree, Angel completed a thesis that analyzed the implications of professors’ use of racial slurs in academic contexts.
During her time at Georgetown, Angel served as the President of the Black Student Alliance, the Secretary of the Minority Pre-Law Association, and the Dialogues Coordinator of the Black House. In these roles, she organized weekly programs that cultivated community, promoted resources, and celebrated Black culture at a predominantly white institution. She is a proud first-generation college graduate and a mentor within the Georgetown Scholars Program, in which she aids first-generation, low-income students in their transition from high school to college.
Throughout undergrad, Angel worked as a Research Assistant for Professor Reed in the Department of Government. As an RA, she conducted research about the impacts of tracking in schools and restorative justice practices on marginalized youth, and she edited book chapters for Professor Reed’s upcoming publication. Furthermore, Angel interned with Organizing Neighborhood Equity, where she compiled rent relief resources during the height of the pandemic to distribute to hundreds of low-income residents throughout D.C., particularly in Wards 7 and 8.
At Penn Carey Law, Angel serves on the Executive Board of the Black Law Students Association as the Community Service Chair. Meanwhile, she is working alongside Professor Cara McClellan to develop the Advocacy for Racial and Civil (ARC) Justice Clinic, Penn’s newest in-house clinic launching in the Spring. Angel is a proud recipient of the Dr. Sadie T. M. Alexander Scholarship, and she is humbled to pursue her legal education in honor of such a trailblazer.
This past summer, Angel conducted research for Professor Cary Coglianese, the Director of the Penn Program on Regulation. Next summer, she will be splitting her time as a Summer Associate between King & Spalding’s Atlanta office and Dechert’s Philadelphia office. In her free time, Angel enjoys traveling, binge watching television, trying new foods, and spending time with friends.
