Abby Samuels L’19

Abby is a Staff Attorney in the Public Benefits Unit at Community Legal Aid Society in her home state of Delaware. There, she provides civil legal services to Delawareans on matters related to Medicaid, food stamps, cash assistance programs, and Social Security Disability benefits, working to ensure that people with limited or no income can access these vitally important programs. Abby’s passion for legal aid work grew from her work as a paralegal at Community Legal Aid, where she spent two years working before law school.

During law school, Abby explored that passion by taking both the Civil Practice and Child Advocacy Clinics. She worked with the Criminal Record Expungement Project, and spent summers interning at Legal Aid in New York City and Community Legal Services in Philadelphia. Those experiences led Abby back to where she started - Community Legal Aid in Delaware. Abby gained the perspective that working in a community that she knows well and cares about deeply is an important part of being a legal aid lawyer. She is excited to be working once again in the place where she was born and raised, and at the organization where her passion for legal aid work first began.
