John Moran, LLM’87

Former Secretary General, Ireland’s Department of Finance

John Moran is the former Secretary General of Ireland’s Department of Finance.  Before taking this post, he was Head of Banking at the Department.  While with the Department of Finance, Moran was responsible for economic, budgetary and fiscal, banking and financial service policy matters and oversight of Ireland’s investments in and support for covered banks.  

Moran is  now the CEO and Founder of RHH International, a consulting and social entrepreneur company, which aids entry into the Irish market for emerging industry leaders such as Uber and Nomura.  Moran funded the start-up of Ireland’s first second-level Centre for Entrepreneurs.  He was appointed a  board member of the European Investment Bank, and is a ‘Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Merit’, or ‘Knight’ of France’s second highest national order or merit.

Moran held prior roles as head of wholesale bank supervision in the Central Bank of Ireland, CEO and Board Member for Zurich Bank, CEO of Zurich Capital Markets, and as a resident solicitor for McCann Fitzgerald.

Moran is engaged in many pro bono and charitable initiatives.  He played a central role in establishing Narrative 4, a not-for-profit organization promoting social change through storytelling.  He is also Chairman of the Hunt Museum.
