Jong-An Kim, LLM’90

Director for International Trademarks Promotion, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)

Jong-An Kim is the Director for the International Trademarks Promotion in the Brands and Designs Sector of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a specialized agency within the United Nations created to promote the protection of intellectual property throughout the world.  When appointed to this senior position, Kim became the first Korean to rise to WIPO’s higher echelon. 

In this role, Kim is tasked with promoting the Madrid System for International Trademark Registrations and overseeing a series of procedures for trademark registrations.  His prior positions at the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) have included Director of the International Intellectual Property Training Institute (IIPTI), Director of Planning and Budget Division, Administrative Director of Appellate Trail Board, Professor of IIPTI, Deputy Director of Intellectual Property Policy Division, Trademark Examiner and Deputy Director of IIPTI. Kim has previously served as a Senior Program Officer in the Developing Countries (PCT) Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization.  

Kim has also taught intellectual property law at many universities and given regular lectures on the subject of trademark law and practice at the Graduate school of Intellectual Property and Law, Yonsei University and IIPTI.
