Lodewijk Briet, LLM’75Former European Union Ambassador to Kenya
Lodewijk Briet is the former European Union Ambassador to Kenya (2011-2015). He previously served as the European Union Ambassador to South Africa (2005-2010).
The Ambassador of the European Union is appointed by the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission. He/she is chosen among candidates coming from the European Union External Action Service (EEAS), the European Commission, the European Council and the 28 Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Member States of the European Union.
Briet joined the European Community forty years ago, and has since worked on trade, legal issues, and security policy. He previously served in two EU postings to the United States in Washington DC. He was a key advisor on legal issues to the long-serving president of the European Commission, Jacques de Lors.
