Andy, Ellen, Lori, and SarahAndy, Ellen, Lori, and Sarah

Andy Lang

Reference Librarian

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a dual J.D./MLIS, Andy worked for two and a half years at the Georgetown Law Center’s Edward Bennett Williams Law Library as a Reference Librarian and Adjunct Professor of Law.

An active member of the Law Librarian profession, Andy has held leadership roles with the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL), the Law Librarians Society of Washington DC (LLSDC), and now the Greater Philadelphia Law Library Association (GPLLA).

As a reference librarian, he enjoys helping people find the information they need and providing legal research instruction. When not fielding reference questions, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their tyrannical dog, reading books in translation, and exploring Philadelphia’s vibrant food scene.

Sarah Oswald

Sarah joined the Biddle Law Library staff in May 2018 as the Archivist. Sarah oversees the collections of the National Bankruptcy Archives, the American Law Institute archives, as well as the rare books, institutional records, and manuscript collections of Penn Law and Biddle Law Library.

Prior to joining the staff of Biddle, Sarah worked for the Nantucket Historical Association, Union College in NY, and Drexel University College of Medicine’s Legacy Center. She received her Master’s in Information Science from the University of Michigan and a Master’s in Museum Studies from New York University.

Sarah enjoys hiking, camping, and exploring gardens with her husband Mitch. She credits hiking on Mount Fuji in Japan, hiking within the Gila National Forest in New Mexico, and exploring the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs as some of her most memorable outdoor experiences.

Ellen Reece

Metadata & Systems Librarian

Ellen comes to Biddle from a community college library where she was a jack of all trades.  She performed acquisitions, instruction, reference, and was the head of technical services.  She also has a background in archives and performed her practicum at Columbia University’s Rare Book and Manuscript Library.

Her primary function at Biddle is as the Innovative wrangler—she’ll see to it that Sierra, LOLA, and Encore cooperate with you and yield the best possible results.

When not involved in library-type activities, Ellen enjoys reading, spending time with her 15-year-old grouch of a cat, Dr. Phibes, and collecting mid-20th Century cookbooks.  She has also developed a Netflix habit and watches endless hours of Star Trek—particularly Deep Space Nine.

Lori Rowland

Head of Access Services

Lori spent the last ten years at Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center overseeing the stacks and, in recent years, the reserves department.  Prior to that, she was the circulation desk administrator at Rutgers-Camden Law Library.

During her time at Rutgers, she earned her MLIS in Library and Information Studies and completed an MA in American History with special interest in the 19th century.  Lori’s capstone paper was a study of the Germantown Working Men’s Literary Association, a debate society formed in 1842 by tailors, shopkeepers and other craftsmen to sharpen their intellectual skills and foster self-improvement.

At home, Lori loves gardening with her husband and spending time with their two border collies.
