Lowenstein Sandler: Employer Blog

July 20, 2018

CLIENTS: We have a ten-year track record of providing increasingly higher-value service to our clients.

When The American Lawyer published its June 5, 2018, infographic, “ALM Legal Compass Snapshot: A Decade of The Am Law 200 by the Numbers,” we took a hard look at how we stacked up against the industry leaders. The numbers told the story: A decade of solid growth that outpaced the competition. So we created an infographic of our own

If you click on this link, you will see that, in the last 10 years:

  • We’ve enjoyed 51.4% revenue growth (easily besting the Am Law 50); and
  • Our revenue per lawyer grew by 38.5%, more than double the rate of the Am Law 50.

By any measure, Lowenstein competes with the best, making us a stable, intelligent choice for law school students looking to launch rewarding careers.

COLLEAGUES: Boosting associate compensation.

Your students will be pleased to learn that Lowenstein is increasing associate salaries and paying mid-year bonuses across all of our offices (see Above the Law’s coverage). The reasons for this are simple:

  • We are having a very strong year in all of our major practice departments (including our transactional groups, litigation, and bankruptcy), and we believe in sharing some of the fruits of that success; and
  • Our continued success depends on our ability to attract and retain a diverse and inclusive workforce at all levels of experience and in the numbers that we need to serve clients who trust us to handle their most complex and sensitive matters.

Lowenstein sets—and sticks to—its own standards. But to accomplish our client service and growth objectives, we must be nimble enough to respond to the competitive marketplace for talented lawyers at all levels.

COMMUNITY: Standing up for the rule of law.

We applaud the fact that so many of today’s law students care deeply about issues of social and economic justice. So do we. Of the many characteristics that distinguish Lowenstein from other firms, perhaps the most important is our proven commitment to standing up publicly for what is right.

On June 25, 2018, Brad S. Karp, Chairman of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, and I coauthored a New York Times Op-Ed, “The Law Did Not Create This Crisis, but Lawyers Will Help End It” (also available on our website). It calls upon the Administration to:

  • Develop an immediate plan for reunifying children with their families;
  • Release families who pose no threat to our country; and
  • Terminate the policy of criminally prosecuting asylum seekers.

This strong statement drew the united support of 34 of the nation’s largest firms, representing over 30,000 lawyers. Other media outlets have highlighted this call to action, including the National Law Journal, The American Lawyer, and the ABA Journal

This Op-Ed, like our August 2017 statement regarding the Charlottesville incident and the Lowenstein Center for the Public Interest’s nearly 10-year advocacy on behalf of the dispossessed in numerous cutting-edge matters, reflects our firm’s steadfast willingness to call out injustice, to right what is wrong, and to hold our elected leaders to account.

I welcome you to share these important updates with your colleagues and students, as they demonstrate how and why Lowenstein remains a unique and compelling option for law students seeking to start and sustain a meaningful career.

We look forward to continuing to recruit law students who share our core values, including our relentless commitment to our clients, our colleagues, and our community.

Finally, I invite you to reach out to me or to Mona Patel, our Manager of On-Campus & Entry-Level Recruiting, should you have any questions about our firm.

Enjoy your summer, and we hope to see you and your students both on and off campus!

Thank you.
