Biometric Screenings

Be in the Know encourages you to have a biometric screening once per campaign year. You do not need to complete another biometric screening if you already participated at one of our previous screening events (October 9 – December 4, 2017, and March 15 – 19, 2018), or previously submitted your personal results to AREUFIT on or after September 1, 2017. Participants will only receive credit for one biometric screening during this year’s Be in the Know campaign, which runs September 1, 2017 – August 31, 2018. 

If you have not already received credit for a biometric screening this campaign year, Human Resources is offering our LAST CHANCE on-campus screening dates. At our on-campus events, you’ll receive a biometric screening from AREUFIT and earn 50 points toward the first $100 Be in the Know cash incentive. 

As a partner in your wellbeing, Penn supports you in achieving your health and wellness goals all year round. Now in its sixth year, the Be in the Know campaign offers you even more ways to learn about your health status and make improvements. In the process you can earn up to $300*, plus opportunities for a special gift and prize drawings! 

To get started with the Be in the Know campaign, sign up for a free and confidential biometric screening, which measures your:
  • Blood pressure
  • Blood sugar (glucose)
  • Non-fasting cholesterol: total and high-density lipoproteins (HDL)
  • NEW! Fasting option to also include low-density cholesterol (LDL) and triglyceride results. (Please consume nothing but water within 10 hours of your screening appointment.)

Biometric screenings are conducted by AREUFIT Health Services, an experienced worksite health promotion company. These screenings should only take 20 minutes. On the spot, you’ll receive your screening results and learn what they mean from an AREUFIT health educator.

New this year, Bring a Friend biometric screening bonus, simplified credit for preventative health screenings, earning points for biking to work, and more. Continue to choose how you receive all of your Be in the Know incentives – either in your paycheck or as Campus Recreation credits (with no expiration dates this year). Please note that active full- and part-time benefits-eligible faculty and staff are eligible to register for biometric screenings, participate in Be in the Know, and earn incentives.* To earn the incentives, you must complete the campaign’s biometric screening, online health assessment, and if relevant, qualifying Bonus Actions by the program deadlines. You do not need to be covered by a Penn health insurance plan to be eligible. If you’ve already had a biometric screening from your physician (completed any time between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018) you can still participate in Be in the Know. Simply submit your completed Biometric Screenings Consent Form and results directly to AREUFIT by July 31, 2018 to receive biometric screening credit.

Protecting Your Privacy

Be in the Know is a voluntary wellness program administered according to federal rules. When you participate in a Be in the Know biometric screening, rest assured that your personal health information is strictly protected. Biometric screenings are administered by a third-party professional organization, AREUFIT Health Services, who has conducted these screening for the last five years and has partnered with Penn since 1996. AREUFIT provides biometric screening results to our wellness portal partner StayWell for the sole purpose of populating your personal online health assessment. To gain a better understanding of our faculty and staff’s wellbeing, StayWell will be providing Health Advocate with results of biometric screenings and online health assessment information. AREUFIT, StayWell, and Health Advocate are fully HIPAA compliant and keep all results confidential. Penn receives only aggregated information regarding participation and the general results of the participation Penn population. No individual or personal health data is ever provided to Penn. *Note: All Be in the Know incentives are less applicable payroll taxes.

To complete the registration process:
  • Click on Register For Event at the bottom of the page.
  • Be sure to go to the end of the process. You will know when you have successfully registered when a CONFIRMATION page appears.

Important notes:
  • Biometric screening sessions are only for benefits-eligible faculty and staff of the University of Pennsylvania.
  • You do not need to be covered by a Penn health insurance plan to be eligible.
