Supreme Court Clinic alumni urge Senate to confirm judicial nomination of Prof. Bibas
A group of 46 alumni of Penn Law’s Supreme Court Clinic has submitted a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of Professor Stephanos Bibas’ nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. In the letter, the students attest to Bibas’ skills as an appellate advocate, his leadership as director of the clinic, and his commitment and compassion in service of the clinic’s clients.
Supreme Court Clinic students have the opportunity to work on real Supreme Court cases, including researching, writing legal briefs, and participating in moot court rehearsals. Bibas and the clinic have won various Supreme Court cases, including Petrella v. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which secured the right of the heir to the author of the screenplay Raging Bull to pursue claims against MGM Studios, and Kellogg Brown and Root v. Harris, which persuaded the Supreme Court not to block a wrongful death suit by the parents of a U.S. soldier who was electrocuted due to the alleged negligence of a military contractor.
