Students Making their Mark Abroad: Summer Internships & Fellowships

In Summer 2016, 22 Penn Law students were engaged in global legal work at international firms, multilaterals, NGOs, and corporations.

The International Summer Human Rights Fellowship Program (ISHRF)

Penn Law’s ISHRF fellowships support students to work in UN agencies, multilaterals, intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations. In the summer of 2016, the following Penn Law students pursued human rights fellowships:

  • Joanna Hoodes L’18 - International Development Law Organization (Rome, Italy)             
  • Shaun Rosenthal L’18 - Lawyers for Human Rights (Pretoria, South Africa)
  • Jane Seu L’18 - El Programa LGTB de la Communidad de Madrid (Madrid, Spain)
  • Leah Wong L’18 - The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Asia Pacific Section (Geneva, Switzerland)  

Penn Law International Internship Program (PLIIP)

Penn Law offers pre-selected internship opportunities with preeminent law firms around the globe. PLIIP emphasizes internships in foreign firms, rather than the foreign offices of American or multinational firms, giving students cross-cultural experience and a better understanding of foreign legal practice. Summer 2016 PLIIP interns Included:

Overseas Summer Associates

In addition to our standing summer programs, Penn Law students often pursue summer associate positions overseas for a portion of their first or second summers in law school. In summer 2016, the following students sought these opportunities:
