On Monday, May 16, the University of Pennsylvania Law School hosted its graduation ceremony at the Academy of Music. The Class of 2016 Commencement Address was delivered by Loretta E. Lynch.

Lynch is the Attorney General of the United States and, before being appointed to the position by President Obama, was the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. Attorney General Lynch spoke about her own grandfather’s experiences living under Jim Crow in rural North Carolina in the 1930s, and how those stories encouraged her to pursue justice throughout her career.

“Hold justice in your hands,” she urged the graduates.

Other speakers from the event included Dean Ted Ruger and class speakers Tarek el Erian LLM’16, Kevin Dermody L’16, Sierra Shear L’16, Steffen Hadi LLM’16, Max Goodman L’16, and Callie Kim L’16.
