On July 7, 2015, Penn Law and the International Development Law Organization co-hosted a panel discussion on how efforts to promote the rule of law may best address problems of equity and social justice confronting the international community.
The panel, “Leaving No One Behind: Engaging the law and building capacities to expand the policy space to sustain development” was held in the Delegates Dining Room at the United Nations Headquarters.
Keynote remarks were made by Ambassador Michele J. Sison, United States Deputy Representative to the United Nations; Deputy Representative of the United States to the UN Security Council as well as Irene Khan, Director-General of IDLO. The panelists were Rangita de Silva de Alwis, Associate Dean of International Programs, University of Pennsylvania Law School; William Burke-White, Richard Perry Professor and Inaugural Director, Perry World House; Deputy Dean and Professor of Law, University of Pennsylvania Law School; Khalid Malik, Former Director of the Human Development Report, UNDP; Nikhil Seth, Director, Division for Sustainable Development, UNDESA; and the discussion was moderated by Edith Lederer, Chief Correspondent at the United Nations for the Associated Press (AP).
