Joseph Campbell, Penn Law’s Building Administrator, received a Models of Excellence Award for his work leading Penn Law’s sustainability efforts.

Joseph Campbell, Penn Law’s Building Administrator, has been named a 2015 Models of Excellence Award winner for his work with the Penn Green Campus Partnership Team.

The 23-member team was cited for the “above-and-beyond contributions of each team member in assisting in the achievement of integrating sustainability into coursework, community, and campus planning, design, and operations.”

The team’s efforts led to a 6.6 percent normalized reduction in energy use at Penn in 2014, which is estimated to have saved the university $3.4 million.

As the Penn Law’s Sustainability Coordinator, Campbell implemented sustainability-related projects throughout the Law School, such as the Green Office Certification program and the Power Down Challenge. He also met monthly with coordinators from other Penn schools to share best practices.

“It is an honor to be given the opportunity to foster the growth of the culture of sustainability that already exists here at Penn Law,” said Campbell. “It is a group effort that I am fortunate enough to lead, and I look forward to accomplishing great things with the assistance of the staff, faculty, and students. It is truly a wonderful opportunity.”

Campbell has worked at the Law School since 2007.

“We’re very proud of all the hard work Joe has done for the Law School,” said Joseph Policarpo, Penn Law’s Facilities Director. “This recognition from the university is very well deserved.”

Introduced in 1999, the Models of Excellence Awards were established to recognize staff member accomplishments that reflect “initiative, leadership, increased efficiency, and a deep commitment to service.”

Along with the Penn Green Campus Partnership Team, the Quaker Days Team was also named a 2015 Models of Excellence winner. Honorable mentions were given to the ARCH Team, Hoag Levins of the Wharton School, and the Singh Center for Nanotechnology Team.

The award ceremony will take place on March 24. Campbell will receive $500, as well as a Lucite award etched with College Hall.
