Background Reading: Professor Lawrence Summers’ Leon C. & June W. Holt Lecture (Update)

August 06, 2014

As many of you may know, Professor Lawrence H. Summers’ original February 3, 2014 “Reflections on Policy and the Aftermath of the Financial Crisis” lecture has been rescheduled for Monday, September 8, 2014.   Regular blog readers may recall that we posted an earlier January 22, 2014 entry

As was the case then, “[b]y way of background, and as one means of framing or conceptualizing the Financial Crisis, be sure to check the Congressional Research Service’s quick ten page 2010 report entitled Causes of the Financial Crisis.   This handy guide lists twenty-six ’Causes of the Financial Crisis,’ as illustrated below, complete with rejoinders and additional reading.”

Also, for an in-depth examination, be sure to consult the six hundred thirty-four page 2011 Financial Crisis Inquiry Report, authored by the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission.   With links to both reports, you will be better prepared to appreciate and engage in a thoughtful and stimulating dialogue with Professor Summers.
