I am very thankful for the assistance given to me through scholarship support here at Penn Law. Because I receive financial aid, I am able to pursue a career in education law in an attempt to help close the achievement gap that exists between low income students and their affluent peers. For the past four years, I have worked in Camden, New Jersey as a high school special education teacher and saw first hand the grave inequality that exists among our nation’s students. This experience was a wonderfully rewarding period of my life and as a result education reform has become my passion. I grew up in a low income neighborhood where most young people were not expected to graduate from high school, much less college. I was the first in my family to attend and graduate from college and want to help others who may have seemingly insurmountable obstacles in their way. Every child should receive a quality education that prepares them for the rigors of college. My goal is to continue tackling these issues and thanks to Penn Law and all of you I will be able to fight for education reform.
