Increasing Access: Margot Campbell L’14
BOLD AMBITIONS has opened the doors to Penn Law wider than ever. We have dramatically strengthened our ability to offer the finest legal education to students who live up to our academic standards, regardless of means.
Like many who windup in law school, I have always known I have wanted to be a lawyer since the tender age of five. But for me, this was more of an unachievable dream than a future career goal. You see, like most immigrants, my mother came to America from her tiny Caribbean homeland with the hopes that her children could have access to opportunities she couldn’t have dreamed of growing up. But working the graveyard shift while raising three children alone barely left her with enough money to make ends meet. And as my older two siblings had been unable to continue on to higher education, I was afraid that I would follow suit. Thanks to many generous donors, instead of my worst fears coming true, my best dreams have become a reality. Without campaign dollars, I wouldn’t be able to break that cycle and become the first in my family to attend college and law school. The capital campaign has not only increased my access to higher education, it has increased my mother’s access to the American dream and for that I am very grateful. Thank you.
