Penn Law’s international programming has helped me both develop my interest in international law and establish an professional network that will be incredibly helpful in my career. Through the International Programs Office, I have had the opportunity to hear renowned academics speak on issues on contemporary international law, including the importance of reciprocity in treaties and how compliance with international law works in practice. Every week it seems like Penn is bringing in a new and interesting speaker to discuss cutting edge topics in the field. Without the campaign’s assistance in developing Penn as a leader in global law, I would not have been able to explore my passion for the topic. In addition, Penn Law’s International Programs Office has helped me establish connections with a network of scholars and practitioners that will help me further my career. Through the Office, I was able to secure an externship working at the U.S. Department of Treasury on the Iran sanctions desk. Given my desire to work at the intersection of law and national security, this opportunity provided me with an unparalleled stepping stone into the field. The Office also provided me with support to present my academic research to policy makers in Washington, D.C. Following the presentation, senior members of the Intelligence community expressed significant interest in my research and as a result of the opportunity provided by the International Programs Office, my work is now being read by policy makers. Without the International Programs Office, I would have never been able to make the invaluable connections.
