Wharton professor Adam Grant suggests reaching out to “dormant ties” in order to maximize the power of your network. As he describes, reconnecting with those you’ve lost touch with allows you the comfort and familiarity of contacting someone you know well (a “strong tie”) while still providing the benefits associated with “weak ties”: namely, access to new information, connections and opportunities.
