Today’s tip takes an early look at SharePoint 2010. This past Friday, you should have recieved the first of several SharePoint 2010 previews that we will be sending in the coming weeks. If you haven’t had a chance to take a look yet, follow today’s tip to learn more.

We’re getting ready to bring SharePoint 2010 to everyone in the building in the next few weeks. We have some wonderful resources for you to get familiar with the new version that are perfect for some light summer reading. We will follow up each week with highlights on each of these new features.

Sounds Exciting! What does this mean for me?

While SharePoint 2010 will brings many improvements, we think you’ll be most excited about three changes in particular.

Microsoft Office in your Web Browser

Trying to track down the right version of a document can mean opening and closing a lot of files. Downloading documents just to preview what’s inside is a thing of the past. This is where Office Web Apps come in.

Office Web Apps are online versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint that work right in your web browser. Now, when you click on a document in SharePoint 2010 you will get a live preview of the file, right in your browser!

Need to make edits on the go? You can edit the files from your browser, even if the computer you’re using doesn’t have Office installed!

Create, Open, and Edit SharePoint Files without the Website

While many people enjoy using the SharePoint web interface, with SharePoint 2010 you can create, open, and edit SharePoint files without ever leaving Microsoft Word. These improvements make SharePoint feel more like your U and G drives, even when you’re out of the office.

Use the Office-style Ribbon Interface in SharePoint

SharePoint 2010 adds the same familiar ribbon interface you use in all of your favorite Microsoft Office applications. Now, when you’re formatting your SharePoint pages and documents, you get the same formatting controls that you see in Microsoft Word. The ribbon even lets you quickly delete multiple files at the same time.

Our Web Providers out there will love the consistent controls for all the different types of pages they edit.

I Can’t Wait, Show me more!
