#138 How To Properly Dispose of Batteries

Did you know that ITS provides battery recycling? Demand for batteries in increasingly electronic world has increased steadily. As more batteries are used, they have begun to pile up in landfills. Used batteries are known to cause serious problems for the environment. Next time you’re swapping out those batteries, bring the old ones in to the Student Help Desk in T-232 and we’ll take care of them for you.

Most battery recyclers will not take non-rechargeable (alkaline) batteries, as the EPA does not consider them toxic. There are however some recyclers that will take them which properly dispose of the alkaline and recycle the metal.
