#4 Fix Difficult Formatting with the Format Painter

You’ve been working hard to get a report submitted. Minutes before the deadline, you notice part of your document wasn’t formatted properly and you have no time to figure out how to fix it. Format Painter is here to help! The Format Painter is a fast and easy way to replicate formatting from one part of your document to another. Use the Format Painter in all of your favorite Office applications to save time and fix your difficult formatting issues.

  1. Select some text with the desired formatting. Select a portion of a paragraph to only apply character formatting or an entire paragraph to apply character and paragraph formatting.
  2. On the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, click Format Painter. Your cursor will change to a paintbrush icon.
  3. Select the text you want to format.


Formatting multiple sections? Double-click on the Format Painter icon to keep it active. Press the ESC key when you are finished formatting.
