#2 Send Files as Links Rather than Attachments

December 08, 2010
Imagine a world without attachments. Sending and receiving files like photos, documents, and videos can be a hassle. They quickly consume email quotas, slow down your mailbox, and can be rejected by a recipient’s mail server. Send File lets you send files of all sizes without worrying about quotas or limits.
Use Send File to send out pictures from your latest event, large manuscripts to your publishers, and files to people who do not have access to your SharePoint site. Send File also allows you to delete an attachment after sending if you notice an error in your file.
The Send File tool allows you to send files as links within email rather than as attachments. Most email providers only allow attachments up to 10-20 MB in size and Penn Law limits you to attachments of up to 20 MB. Send File allows you to send files up to 180 MB that are accessible up to 90 days.
Using Send File is as easy as following the 3 steps below.
  1. Visit PLEAS at https://apps.law.upenn.edu/pleas/ and click the Send File link on the PLEAS menu to get started.
  2. Browse for your file, set an expiration date, and click Upload and Get Link. You will be taken to a list of all your active files.
  3. From here you can right-click on your file name and choose Copy Shortcut or Save Link Location (depending on your browser version) then paste it into your email.
Alternative method: After uploading your file, you can start a new email that includes your file by clicking the Send Email link.
Delete a posted file: Delete a file from Send File by clicking the Delete link next to your file.
Need to upload several files? Click the add another  link.
This is not for sending confidential or other sensitive information. Sensitive data should not be sent using this tool or as an email attachment. Instead, please use Secure Share (for within Upenn community only), Penn Law Common, or the G drive.
