Alumni Spotlight: Adnan Zulfiqar L’08 – Insights on Islamic Law, Law in the Global South, and the Path to Legal Academia

Join us for this lunchtime chat with Adnan Zulfiqar, Associate Professor of Law at Rutgers Law School. During this interactive discussion, Dr. Zulfiqar will share a few key formative experiences that originated at Penn Law (such as his work with Professor Paul Robinson to draft new criminal codes/commentaries for the Republic of the Maldives and the Federal Republic of Somalia, under the auspices of the UNDP and IDLO). Topics of discussion will include his return to Penn for doctoral study and a Sharswood Teaching Fellowship, as well as lessons-learned on the path to legal academia. Zulfiqar will also reflect on his first few years as a law professor at Rutgers (where he has twice been honored as Professor of the Year by the graduating 2020 and 2021 classes). Time permitting, this discussion will highlight the latest research updates on Zulfiqar’s work on Islamic Law, Law in the Global South, and human rights.
