1L Programs on Building Professional Identity

February 12, 2024

On January 22, 2024 nearly a dozen alumni returned to Penn Carey Law to share their experiences with 1L students. E&I organized three concurrent Building Professional Identity panels, each focusing on one of the following topics: Being the First or One of Few in my Workplace; Balancing Faith, Family, Service, and Career; and Bringing Invisible Inequity to the Forefront. 1Ls were able to select which panel they attended.

Chet Eckman L'17, Leah Wong L'18, Shabel Castro L'19, Vindhya Adapa L'14

M. David Josefovits L'20, Fatoumata Waggeh L'20, Geneva Brown L'13

Remy Nshimiyimana L'11, Harper Seldin L'14, Katie Beran L'12

These discussions, hosted by faculty members and moderated by E&I Fellows, featured candid conversations with alumni about how all measures of their identity inform their work as legal professionals. This was the third installment of E&I’s year-long 1L programming, which concludes at the end of March with a workshop in which students will engage in small group discussions focused on identifying and addressing bias in legal practice and through client advocacy. More information about these 1L programs can be found at this link.
