Audio & Video Conferencing

This page gives the specific conferencing features available in these rooms. Audio and Video conferences require more advance notice than other classroom technology. In most cases ITS will need to make arrangements with the remote party, including a test session in advance. Thus, 2-4 weeks notice is required.

Please also see the classroom technology page, which gives an overview of technology available in Penn Law classrooms.

Explanation of Terms:

  • Internet:The remote site must have one of the following conferencing platforms:
    • Professional videoconferencing device: This is often called by their brand names: Polycom, Tandberg, Sony. The connection is over IP (i.e., the Internet), and we use Internet2 (“Magpi”) as well.
    • Skype: This requires a desktop or laptop with the proper hardware (microphone, camera) and Skype software — which is a free download for both Windows and Mac.
  • ISDN: The remote site must have a professional videoconferencing device. The service is provided by an outside vendor, and all calls are subject to approval.
  • Front Camera: One or more cameras in the front of the room can record the audience.
  • Presenter’s Monitor: An LCD screen facing the presenter provides convenient monitoring of the remote site, so that the presenter does not need to turn around and look at the projection screen.
  • Professional Hardware: Certain rooms are equipped with professional videoconferencing equipment. These rooms will be the ideal rooms for any IP or ISDN call to another professional videoconferencing  equipment.

Notes

* On Request indicates that the technology is offered, but subject to availability. It draws on a pool of equipment shared among multiple rooms.
