Getting Started with Dashlane
You can follow the steps below to obtain a Dashlane Premium account:
-
-
Click on this link to go to Penn’s Dashlane Premium distribution page.
-
Click the “Add to Cart” button and then click “Check Out” to get the product. You will be given an individualized registration code. Write this down temporarily. In the event you lose it before registering your Dashlane account, you can return to the distribution page and get the registration code again.
-
Go to https://www.dashlane.com/getpremium.
-
Select “Premium” as your plan, then enter a personal, non-law email address when prompted (ex. Gmail, Yahoo, etc.).
-
Click on the link that says “Enter a Promo Code” and enter your registration code from step 2.
-
Agree to the Terms of Service and click “Complete My Purchase.”
-
Follow the directions to install the Dashlane browser extension. If you already have the extension installed, proceed to the next step.
-
Open the browser extension and when prompted for a login, select “Create an Account.”
-
Enter the same email address you used with your registration code and create a strong, but memorable Master Password. You can also choose to go Passwordless.
- Your Dashlane account is now ready to use!
-
Click on this link to go to Penn’s Dashlane Premium distribution page.
We strongly recommend you set up 2-factor authentication for your account and review the available account recovery options should you forget your Master Password.
NOTE: Your Master Password is the only password you ever need to remember for Dashlane. Since your Dashlane account is personally owned, ITS is unable to assist in recovering/resetting your Master Password.
If you accidently register your Dashlane account to the wrong email address
If you sign up for Dashlane using the wrong address, you can sign up for a new free Dashlane account and transfer the Premium license to it. The following Dashlane article gives steps on how to transfer a license:

2-Factor Authentication
2-factor authentication is strongly recommended for all Dashlane accounts. You can use apps such as Microsoft Authenticator to have your Dashlane 2FA set up alongside your LawKey 2FA.
You can review the video below to see how to enable 2FA from the Dashlane web app. Once enabled, you’ll be taken through a 5-step process covering frequency of 2FA prompts, setting up your 2FA methods, and how to use recovery keys to access your account if your other 2FA methods are not available.

Recovery options
NOTE: If your Master Password is forgotten and you haven’t enabled a recovery method, neither ITS nor Dashlane can assist you in recovering your Master Password. This is due to Dashlane’s “zero-knowledge” system, meaning no one—including Dashlane—has access to your data.
The two supported recovery methods for Dashlane Premium accounts are listed below.
Account recovery key
With this feature, you can generate a random 28-character code called a “recovery key” that you save until you need it. Then if you forget your Master Password or get locked out of your passwordless account, you can regain access to Dashlane with this single-use key and an identity verification step
Set up and use Dashlane’s account recovery key
Biometric recovery
If you’ve set up Dashlane on your Android or Apple device to unlock your account with biometrics, you can turn on Biometric recovery. Then, if you enter the wrong password or fail to authenticate when logging in, Dashlane offers you the option to reset your Master Password by identifying you using your chosen biometric method.

Additional Information
Autofill Preferences
You can set your preferred settings for login options and form fields under Autofill > Global Preferences.
If you prefer not to have the app autofill items on a specific site, you can choose to pause autofill on that site only.
If you prefer to turn off autofill on a single form field, you can do so by clicking inside that form field, clicking on the three dots to the right of the dropdown window, and selecting one of the pause options

Importing data from LastPass
If you are coming from LastPass, you can directly import all of your saved passwords, personal cards, and secure notes to Dashlane by going to “My Account” > “Settings” > “Import data” and selecting “LastPass” from the list of options.
You will need to sign in using your LastPass Master Password to successfully use the import tool. Please make sure your Dashlane Master Password is different from your LastPass Master Password.
You can review the video below to see the direct import process in action.
After the import process is complete, you should log out and/or uninstall the LastPass browser extensions and desktop app if present to avoid problems with autofill and other Dashlane features.
Additionally, once you are sure that everything from LastPass has imported successfully, you should delete your LastPass account.
Further details and considerations can be found at the “Additional Information” links below, and by reviewing the migration tab of the Penn ISC Dashlane guide.
NOTE: If you are using Microsoft Edge, LastPass is currently a “required” extension and therefore, cannot be uninstalled yet. Please log out to avoid problems with autofill and other Dashlane features. LastPass will be removed from Edge on September 26th, 2024.
