Student Color Printers

There are two color printers located on the 3rd Floor of Tanenbaum directly above the Circulation Desk in the Library.  These printers are available for all students to use. After sending your print job, go to any of the print stations and swipe your Penn Card. Select your print job from the screen and it will be printed at that printer.

Installing the law-lab-color Print Queue

For Windows laptops

  1. Hold the Windows key and press the R key to bring up the Run dialogue box.
  2. Type \\stuprinters.law.upenn.edu\law-lab-color and press Enter.
  3. When prompted to login, enter your LawKey username prefixed with NET\ (for example, NET\joesmith) and your LawKey password.

To setup the student printers on a Mac, download and run the Mac OS Add Print Queue.

For Mac OS Sierra users: Please download this version of the Add Print Queue script.

Mac users must first print to the queue before configuring your laptop to connect with your LawKey credentials.  Once you have installed the law-lab-color queue, try printing something and follow these special instructions to configure your laptop to connect to the printer.

Retrieving your Printouts

 After installing, you can send print jobs to the new law-lab-color printer on your computer. You can pick up your printouts at the two print stations located on the 3rd floor of Tanenbaum directly above the library Circulation Desk. Please note that Mac users will need to authenticate with their LawKey the first time they print to a color printer. Use your PennCard to print out your printouts.

  1. Press Logon and wait for the Please swipe your card prompt.
  2. Swipe your PennCard with the stripe facing you.
  3. Please be patient for the login.
  4. Press Print Release, then choose the document you want to print and press Print.

Manual Print Tray for Resumes

For Windows laptops

  1. From the File menu, choose Print.
  2. Select the law-lab-color printer and choose Printer Properties.
  3. On the Paper/Quality tab, select Manually Feed in Tray 1 as your Paper Source.

For Mac laptops

 

  1. From the File menu, choose Print.
  2. Click Show Details (if available).
  3. Choose Layout from the Copies & Pages or Program drop-down menu.
  4. Set All Pages From to Tray 1 (Manual).

Printing Double Sided

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Select “Printers & Scanners”.
  3. Select “law-lab-color” printer.
  4. Click on “Options & Supplies”.
  5. Click on the “Options” tab.
  6. Check the “Duplex Unit” check box.
  7. Click “OK”.

Automatic Stapling

For Windows laptops

  1. From the File menu, choose Print.
  2. Choose Properties.
  3. Choose Printing Shortcuts and verify your document orientation is correct (i.e. portrait or landscape).
  4. Choose the Output tab. In the drop-down menu under Staple:
    • Options: One staple vertical, One staple angled, Two staples, Three staples, Six staples.
    • Staples will print on the left column by default.
    • See image in top right corner of Output menu for how staples will be put in document.

For Mac laptops

  1. From the File menu, choose Print.
  2. Click Show Details (if available).
  3. Choose Finishing from the Copies & Pages or Program drop-down menu.
  4. Set your stapling preferences.

General Notes

  • Prices: Color printing costs $0.40 per single sided page and $0.38 per double sided page. Note that black and white printing costs $0.09 per single sided page and $0.08 per double sided page.
  • Powersave: The MFP units will go into sleep mode between 7:30PM and 7:30AM when idle. During this time select the Start button to initiate power up from sleep mode.
  • Reset: To logout of the printer. When beginning a new job or session select RESET to clear any settings changed in the previous session.
  • Feeding Paper: Face down in the feeder tray.
  • Scanning and copying: The color printers also have similar scanning and copying functions to the law-lab printers.  Please see this guide for information on how to scan or copy from color printers.
