Course Portal: Add Folders, Documents, and Links

The best way to provide documents to your students is by creating a folder for the type of file you're sharing (e.g. Readings, PowerPoint, etc...) and then upload your weekly files into the folder.

There is a 5MB file size limit on all documents uploaded to the Course Portal. Please split up your documents or compress your PDF's if they are too large.

Create and Link to a Folder

To create a new folder and automatically generate a left-hand menu link on your Course Portal page, follow the steps below.

  1. From the Course Portal homepage, first click Manage Site for your course and then click the Content tab.
  2. Click the Add/Manage Your Course Content button.
  3. Click Create Folder and then enter a name for your new folder/menu item.
  4. Select the Add a link to this folder on the left menu check box and click Create.

An empty folder has been created and your Course Portal menu has updated with a new link. Any files added to this folder will automatically appear when the link is clicked.

Upload Additional Documents to a Folder

Once you have created and linked to a folder, any files you upload into the directory are automatically made available to your students.

To upload files:

  1. From the Course Portal homepage, first click Manage Site for your course and then click the Content tab.
  2. Click the Add/Manage Your Course Content button.
  3. Click Add Files then select the folder you would like your document to appear in.
  4. Click Browse, navigate to the file you would like to upload, and then click Open.
    Repeat for as many files you would like to add to the same folder.
  5. Click Add.

Your files have been uploaded and will be shown on the corresponding menu.

Upload and Link to a Single Document

You can also upload a single file and link to it directly on the left-hand menu. You will first need to upload the document then create a link as described below.

Upload File

  1. From the Course Portal homepage, first click Manage Site for your course and then click the Content tab.
  2. Click the Add/Manage Your Course Content button.
  3. Click Add Files, click Browse to navigate to the file you would like to upload, and then click Open.
  4. Click Add.
  5. At the bottom of the page, choose Back to Site Content.

Create Link

  1. Click the Add a New Custom Link button, type a name for your link in the box that appears, then click Select File/Folder.
  2. In the box that appears, click the Select button next to the file you want linked.
  3. Click Submit to save your changes.
