Getting Started

Logging In

To access the Penn Law Canvas site, go to https://canvas.law.upenn.edu and enter your PennKey username and password.

IMPORTANT: A PennKey is required to log in to Canvas. If you need a PennKey, please call 215.898.2589 or email itshelp@law.upenn.edu

If you are unsure if you have a PennKey, use the Test My PennKey tool.

Merging Canvas Accounts

There are separate instances of Canvas for Penn Law and Penn. If you have an existing Canvas account or if you enroll in a course at another University of Pennsylvania school, you may be prompted to merge your two accounts. However, it may not be necessary. Canvas has proactively merged accounts between the Penn Law and UPenn instances for students enrolled as of August 19. You can check to see if your accounts were successfully merged by reviewing your profile settings at https://pennlaw.instructure.com/profile/settings (requires PennKey login).

If you see both UPenn and Penn Law listed under Ways to Log In, your account was successfully merged.

 

 

 

 

 

 

You may also receive an email from Canvas prompting you to merge your accounts. If your accounts are already merged (per above), you can ignore this email.

Navigating Canvas

Profile & Settings

Your profile and settings can be accessed and edited through the Account option in the left menu. The following steps to configure your profile and settings should be done after your initial log in and only need to be done one time.

 

Editing Your Profile

Your profile contains all of your personal information that you wish to include and is visible to other Canvas users through the People menu of your courses.

Editing Your Settings

The Settings menu allows you to edit personal information such as display name, time zone, language, and even link your Canvas profile to other social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Configuring Your Notification Preferences

Notification allows you to select how and when you want to be notified of Canvas events including course announcements. Notifications can be sent to any of the contact methods you configured in your profile’s Settings menu.
