Logging In
To access the Penn Carey Law Canvas site, go to https://canvas.law.upenn.edu and enter your PennKey username and password.
IMPORTANT: A PennKey is required to log in to Canvas. If you need a PennKey, please call 215.898.2589 or email itshelp@law.upenn.edu .
If you are unsure if you have a PennKey, use the Test My PennKey tool.
LawKey & PennKey: What’s the Difference?
Merging Canvas Accounts
There are separate instances of Canvas for Penn Carey Law (https://canvas.law.upenn.edu) and Penn (https://canvas.upenn.edu) . If you are enrolled in courses that have sites in both instances, ITS will merge your Canvas accounts automatically (so that all of your courses will appear in both sites). Canvas account merging will occur each fall and spring term after drop/add ends.

Navigating the DashboardThe Dashboard is the first thing you will see when you log in to Canvas and displays everything that is happening in all of your courses. |

Navigating your CourseTo access a course you are teaching or enrolled, click the Courses option in the left menu. |
Profile & Settings
Your profile and settings can be accessed and edited through the Account option in the left menu. The following steps to configure your profile and settings should be done after your initial log in and only need to be done one time.

Editing Your ProfileYour profile contains all of your personal information that you wish to include and is visible to other Canvas users through the People menu of your courses.

Editing Your SettingsThe Settings menu allows you to edit personal information such as display name, time zone, language, and even link your Canvas profile to other social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. |

Configuring Your Notification PreferencesNotification allows you to select how and when you want to be notified of Canvas events including course announcements. Notifications can be sent to any of the contact methods you configured in your profile’s Settings menu.
Muting Notifications for a Particular CourseYou can mute notifications for a particular course by selecting “View Course Notifications” on the courses home page. From there, you can toggle “Enable Notifications” to either disable or enable notifications for that course.
